March 14, 2006
Dear Friends,
Wellington “Duke” Eler passed away on March 7,
2006. Duke was president of State Capital from 1967 to 1985. He is
remembered by many in the industry as a genuine leader and a true
gentleman.
I certainly knew my grandfather
much better in his role as grandfather than I did in his role as
president of State Capital. I have, however, heard many stories
from everyone here about how he led the company. He was meticulous
with details and organization and had a long memory for dates,
places, and people. In fact, some of his notes and files are still
relied upon and appreciated here today. What is truly remarkable is
that even today many employees here still fondly remember the day
that Duke hired them, which means we are still enjoying the benefits
of his knack for finding talent. State Capital is a company rich
with history and Duke was a significant contributor to its existence
today.
My grandfather remained
interested and supportive of the present and future of State Capital
until the very end. I look forward to working to see that State
Capital continues in a way that would make him, as well as my father
proud. All of us here at State Capital thank you for your continued
support.
Sincerely,
Christopher John Eler
